As an adjective, the word “nonchalant” is used to describe someone who has an air of unconcern or indifference. It also means behaving in a calm manner, without getting excited or frightened.
Origin
Nonchalant comes from an Old French word “nonchaloir”, meaning “to disregard.” It is not the opposite of chalant.
