Temerity
Used as a noun, temerity means rashness, recklessness or boldness arising from contempt of danger. It suggests a willingness to do or say something that shocks or upsets others. Temerity is often used in the negative sense to show disapproval.
Origin:
The term derives from the Latin temere meaning “rashly” or “blindly”, from temeritas meaning “rashness” It has been in use from the late 14th Century.
Usage:
Nobody had the temerity to raise the issue at the meeting. There are some patients who have the temerity to question their doctor’s line of treatment.
He had the temerity to call her a liar.
