The word glee is used to convey great delight, especially from one’s own good fortune. It is, however, also used at times to convey the delight at others misfortune.

Origin:

The word is from Old English and presumably has a Proto-Germanic root, even though it is absent in most other Germanic languages. A poetry word in Old English and Middle English that went obsolete between 1500-1700 , it isn’t clear how it found its way back into usage in the 18th Century.

Usage:

The glee on her face was evident after she won the singing competition.
