Polaroid’s Zip is an instant printer, letting you wirelessly print smartphone captured photos. You can print directly from a phone or tablet in less than 60 seconds using Bluetooth or NFC technology. Measuring 2.91″ x 4.72″ it prints smudge-proof, water-proof photos of 2 x 3 inch dimension with a sticky back for extra fun. The printer uses Zink (Zero Ink) paper, doing away with ink cartridges or toner. Each piece of ZINK paper contains multiple layers of cyan, yellow, and magenta dye crystals. When heated to high temperatures by the printer, a photograph is formed upon the paper and protected by the top gloss overcoat. Equipped with a 500 mAh Lithium battery, the printer gives 25 sheets per charge via microUSB. The Zip app allows for basic editing, creating collages, and adding “secret” messages via a QR code. For professionals, the app uses templates to create instant business cards.
Polaroid Zip is roughly the size of a smartphone weighs just .41lbs so its pretty easy to carry around. There’s just one physical control which is the power button and that too is integrated into the unit’s simple design. The printer can connect to smartphones and tablets over NFC or Bluetooth 4.0.
The iOS and Android apps, apart from allowing users to print, bring several features as well which can be used to make edits to the photos before they’re printed out. Polaroid Zip uses ZINK imaging’s ink-free Zero Ink Printing technology and promises to print 25 images on a single charge.
