I want to be a forest officer. What are the options after B.Sc.? What fields are available in this line? And what kind of exams are to be taken up?

A Forest Service Officer is accountable for managing forests, environment and wildlife related issues of a forest division of a state or union territory. To become one, you should clear the exam for Indian Forest Service (IFS). It is based on the IAS pattern and conducted by UPSC. Eligibility is graduation with science/engineering subjects. Selection is based on a written examination followed by interview and personality test. There is one paper on general English, one on general knowledge and four papers on any two subjects of your choice.

You may also join this field by doing B.Sc. (Forestry) followed by some specialised course. Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal (www.iifm.ac.in) provides training in management of forests.
